But in previous ages surgeries were done without anesthesia. The first pain-numbing drug was employed in 1846 but before that, the patients were operated upon while they were conscious. If we talk about the 17th century, they were very hard working. Most of the people died because of post-operative attack. And the other reason was a loss of blood and infection.
